Windmill with Terrace

This project was born from the persistence of an idea planted years ago—like a stubborn seed waiting for the right moment to sprout. The Windmill with Terrace is the mature fruit of an internal process of creation and synthesis: a space for childhood, but also a symbolic piece of our way of understanding the landscape.

The design is based on two essential shapes: the circle and the triangle. The first, the Windmill, leans slightly forward as if greeting the visitor, opening up to the world with a simplicity that draws attention. The second, the Terrace, is a rising vertex that welcomes. Both forms engage in a dialogue that blends play, geometry, and poetry.

The entrance is made of Italian porphyry pavers and a walkway of circular logs treated with natural oils, flanked by “Ull de Perdiu” gravel. On each side, two flower beds converse with the seasons: one planted with Lavandula angustifolia or Perovskia atriplicifolia, the other with aromatic rose bushes in a deep purple hue.

The Windmill rises from 16 cm to 70 cm above ground level, in an ascending gesture that culminates in the center with a whimsically pruned Cupressus arizonica “Glauca”, shaped like a conifer cloud. Its blades, made of gravel and artificial turf in different textures and colors, evoke play, diversity, and imagination.

The triangular terrace, bold and full of character, combines stone, wood, and vegetation. The access staircase, made of reclaimed railway sleepers and cobblestones, plays with materials like granite — paired with ivy — and Rubielos stone. The upper platform, made of semi-handmade brick laid dry, invites contemplation, with space for two chairs and a table.

Finally, two Taxus baccata “Robusta” yews planted in 180 cm-high gabion columns frame and enclose the space like silent guardians. At their base, planters with purple-flowering Syringa vulgaris complete this symbolic universe where nature, play, and architecture embrace.

This project was made possible thanks to the trust and support of Xavier Miró, and the collaboration of Bruc Jardí for the use of their materials.
